Hillary Mendelsohn: Editor-in-Chief: The Purple Book
Frustrated by the seemingly random results generated by most Internet search engines, Hillary Mendelsohn decided to create a comprehensive resource to help online shoppers like her, drawing on experience as a busy professional and equally busy wife and parent.
Several years ago, Mendelsohn’s first, late-night attempt at online shopping led her to a revelation – and a new venture. Having typed a “very specific” query into a search engine and received no less than 367 matches, she found that only seven had any relevance. With no available resource guide on the market, she began to create online shopping lists for herself. They proved popular among her friends. So popular, in fact, that Mendelsohn spent three years compiling the ultimate resource, thepurplebook www.thepurplebook.com
With an education in literature and law, Mendelsohn began her career in the entertainment industry, co-founding a management and production company before helping to spin off toys, apparel and other products from entertainment properties such as Terminator 2, Mortal Kombat and Baywatch at The Licensing Group in Los Angeles. A year later she launched her own consulting firm, Poetic Licensing, which has since brought its marketing expertise to such clients as Warner Bros., Franchise Pictures, Sega, Imax, and the Vatican.
About thepurplebook
thepurplebook is a one-of-a-kind, user-friendly, comprehensive internet shopping guide (with more than 1,600 entries) that is dedicated to informing consumers about the best online shopping opportunities available on the web. Every site listed in thepurplebook is recommended to varying degrees, as is reflected by each entry’s written review, and a system of visual indicators intended to rate the site’s uniqueness and customer service options.
The sites themselves represent nationally recognized name brands and manufacturers, designer labels, regional boutiques, dot-com emporiums, small businesses, national chains and any other quality merchant with an established web presence. These are then listed alphabetically within a set of particular categories meant to reflect the interests of consumers as well as the specialized services of the retailers. All are then indexed and arranged for convenient browsing so that, at any given moment, the right store for the right product may be found, without hassle, at the flip of a page…
